Every 3,000 miles
Change the oil and filter. These small engines rev hard and hold only about 2.6 quarts, so clean oil matters more than on a full-size truck.
Every 12 months
Inspect brakes, check the parking brake cable, grease the driveshaft and steering joints, and cycle the 4WD and diff lock so the actuators do not seize.
Every 40,000–60,000 miles
Replace the timing belt, water pump and tensioner together. Flush the coolant and replace the thermostat while you are in there.
Parts worth keeping on the shelf
Spark plugs, an air filter, a fuel filter, a spare set of wheel cylinders and a length of brake line. Nothing exotic, and everything ships fast.
Storage
If the truck sits over winter, fill the tank, add stabilizer and put the battery on a tender. Kei trucks are simple machines; they mostly fail from neglect, not mileage.
